PORTLAND, OR--(May 13, 2015) – The Manufacturing Leadership Forum held in Philadelphia, PA, recently attracted more than 60 senior management attendees from over 30 leading global chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to manufacturing big data.
This fourth in a series of six events, sponsored by Northwest Analytics, delivered a full day of sessions from recognized industry thought leaders focused on manufacturing big data and the value of unlocking its potential. Additional sessions focused on the pharmaceutical industry’s use of enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) to meet the regulatory requirement of Continuous Processing Verification (CPV) to control and improve processes in real time using existing data sources.
The forum’s keynote speaker was noted data analytics visionary Dr. Lloyd Colegrove, Data Services Director and Fundamental Problem Solving Director from The Dow Chemical Company. Dr. Colegrove has been instrumental in driving the innovative application of statistical strategies into real-time data analysis for continuous and batch processing.
“Right now, the manufacturing industry is at a crossroads and needs to make a significant change in the way we view and utilize manufacturing data,” said Dr. Colegrove. “Whether driven by customer requirements, regulatory demands or internal needs to lower costs, companies must harness the potential of the process data already being gathered with real-time manufacturing analytics to make more informed decisions across the enterprise.”
“The discussion related to the use of manufacturing analytics to unlock the potential of existing process data is long overdue,” noted Peter Guilfoyle, vice president of marketing for Northwest Analytics. “Leadership forums like this provide unique opportunities for industry-leading companies to come together for an open exchange of ideas that advance the entire industry, not just singular companies.”
The forum also featured Christian Flojgaard, Senior Consultant, Applied Manufacturing Science from NNE Pharmaplan out of Copenhagen, Denmark. Mr. Flojgaard demonstrated how the principles and statistical approaches of EMI are being utilized to deliver Continuous Process Verification (CPV) for a leading global pharmaceutical company, from incoming raw materials to the finished product.
